What sets the turnstile gate price in Nigeria?

A turnstile lane is a system, not a single box. The cabinet or rotor is the most visible part, but a working entrance also needs a credential reader for each direction, a controller or built-in board that decides who may pass, software to manage users and reports, a protected power supply, cabling, a solid base and someone to install and commission it. Two quotes that look far apart are often pricing different parts of that list.

The main price drivers are the turnstile type, the number of lanes, the material grade and finish, the outdoor rating, the reader technology, power backup, freight and import charges, civil works and installation. Type matters most, because a waist-high tripod, a full-height rotor and a glass speed gate are different classes of product. Lanes multiply almost everything else, since each lane needs its own readers and, for flap, swing and speed gates, usually another cabinet.

Landed costs then sit on top. Heavy, crated units are usually shipped by sea to Lagos, and duty, VAT, levies, clearing and port charges are assessed on arrival. Exchange-rate movement between quotation and payment can change the final turnstile gate price in Nigeria noticeably, so agree the quotation currency and validity at the start and confirm local charges with your clearing agent.

Stainless steel grade, outdoor rating and number of lanes

Most stainless steel turnstile cabinets, including every listed model in Sion's range, are made from 304 stainless steel, which performs well indoors and in most covered entrances. On exposed sites close to the sea, such as Victoria Island, Lekki or the creeks around Port Harcourt, salt-laden air can stain or pit 304 steel over time. Some buyers specify 316 stainless steel for these locations; it costs more and may not be available for every model, so ask before assuming it can be supplied, and otherwise plan a canopy and regular cleaning.

Outdoor rating matters as much as grade. In the listed specifications, flap barriers and speed gates are IP42, the SBT2000S swing gate is IP44, the TS1000 tripod is IP54, and the FHT2300 and FHT2400D full-height units are IP65. A lobby product placed at an open estate gate is likely to suffer in rainy-season downpours, however good its steel. If a lane must stand outdoors, choose an IP65 full-height unit or budget for a proper canopy that keeps rain off a lower-rated cabinet.

Lane count multiplies cost. Each lane needs readers in both directions and its share of cabinets, cabling and civil works. Flap, swing and speed gates are typically built as a row of cabinets with lanes between them, so two lanes usually need three cabinets rather than four, and the modular Saturn S2000 is listed in configurations from 2 to 10 or more lanes. Work out lane numbers from peak traffic, not lobby width: count the people who arrive in the busiest 15 minutes, divide by the listed throughput and leave a margin for slower users.

Freight to Lagos, clearing and civil works

Turnstiles are bulky, heavy and shipped in protective crates, so freight is a bigger share of their landed cost than it is for small electronics. Sea freight to Apapa, Tin Can Island or Lekki Deep Sea Port is usually the economical route, while air freight is charged on chargeable weight and is rarely sensible for full-height units. Once ashore, crates need a truck, a forklift or enough hands to unload them, plus secure storage until the site is ready. Lobbies with marble or tiled floors may need core drilling and careful making good, and outdoor lanes usually need a canopy.
